We have spent generations cultivating and curating for you the finest Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee in the world. We do not take that responsibility lightly, and we do not expand our offering at this exclusive quality level, unless something truly extraordinary presents itself. Kona Peaberry from Greenwell Farms is exactly that.
This is not a departure from what we do. It is an expression of the same philosophy that has guided us from the beginning: seek out the most exceptional coffees on earth, source them with integrity, and bring them to people who care as deeply about what is in their cup as we do.
We are not asking you to choose. Jamaica Blue Mountain remains, and always will remain, the heart of what we offer. What we are saying is this: if you love extraordinary coffee, there is another cup we think you should know about.
The Two Greatest Coffees in the World
Of the countless coffee-growing regions on earth, only a handful have achieved true legendary status. Kona stands alongside Jamaica Blue Mountain as one of the most celebrated and sought-after coffees in the world. Both are defined by volcanic soil, dramatic mountain microclimates, and a scarcity that makes every harvest precious.
Grown on the fertile volcanic slopes of Mauna Loa on HawaiĘ»i’s Big Island, Kona coffee benefits from a near-perfect convergence of conditions found nowhere else: rich, mineral-dense volcanic soil, warm mornings, cloud cover that rolls in each afternoon to shade and cool the trees, and gentle tropical rains that arrive almost on schedule. The result is a bean of exceptional clarity — smooth, low in bitterness, and layered with a delicate complexity that has captivated coffee lovers since the 19th century. Demand has always far outstripped supply, and with the Kona coffee belt stretching just 30 miles long and two miles wide, it always will. That scarcity, combined with the quality that justifies it, is why 100% Kona commands its place among the most prized coffees on earth.
Our extraordinary Jamaica Blue Mountain is prized for its smooth, rich, rounded, balanced cup — the long-established benchmark of excellence in coffee. Kona brings something distinctly its own: a brighter character, a natural sweetness, and a fresh, shorter finish. Two legends. Two experiences. Both worth knowing.
175 Years on the Same Volcanic Slopes
Greenwell Farms — Kealakekua, Kona, Hawaiʻi
Some coffees carry history in every cup. This one carries 175 years of it. What began as one entrepreneur’s conviction that Kona coffee deserved a global audience has become one of the great multi-generational farming stories in the world.
Greenwell Farms was founded in 1850 by Henry Nicholas Greenwell, an entrepreneur who saw the potential of Kona coffee before the world did. In 1873, he brought it to the World’s Fair in Vienna, Austria — introducing Hawaiian coffee to a global stage. Five generations later, his descendants still farm the same volcanic slopes, with the same conviction that Kona coffee is unlike anything else on earth. We have sourced our first offering of this world-famous coffee directly from Tommy Greenwell himself.
As High as the Kona Belt Will Allow
This coffee is grown at 2,700 feet — the very upper limit of the Kona belt, beyond which the climate shifts and the magic disappears. Here, the microclimate does something remarkable: clouds roll in every afternoon like clockwork, temperatures swing from the high 70s by day to near 40°F at night, and the fields sit in a natural eddy shaped by the trade winds and the volcano itself. That thermal stress, that rhythm — it is precisely what concentrates flavor in the bean.
The variety is equally rare. This is the second cultivar ever introduced to Kona — an Arabica Typica brought to the island in the 1980s, distinct from the original Hawaiian Typica of 1828. Every batch is processed field by field, cupped every week, and held to an uncompromising 100% standard by Tom himself.
Less than 5% of Any Harvest
A Peaberry is nature’s anomaly — a single, perfectly rounded bean formed where two would normally grow, concentrating every nuance of origin into one exceptional seed. These beans are hand-sorted from one specific field at Greenwell Farms and precision-processed using color sorters in their own facility.
This specific lot has never before been sold outside of HawaiĘ»i. Nothing leaves the farm that has not passed Tom’s own palate.
“Mellow, smooth — no harsh bite. Flavorful but harmonious. Not a long linger.”
Tommy Greenwell, 5th Generation — Greenwell Farms, Kona, Family-Owned Estate
Developed to Highlight Its Complex Flavors
We present this coffee in a carefully developed medium roast, chosen to accentuate its finest qualities and honor the nuance that the Greenwell microclimate has spent a full growing season building into the bean.
Aroma – Honeysuckle, toasted macadamia, whisper of ripe peach
Palate – Milk chocolate, brown sugar, warm hazelnut
Finish – Dried apricot, jasmine, clean and harmonious
The first sip opens with a bright, citrus-kissed acidity that quickly gives way to a smooth medium body. True to the Kona character Tom describes, mellow, smooth, no harsh bite, the finish is clean and brief, a gentle sweetness that fades gracefully rather than lingering.
